Red Hat Academy Linux Classes and Certificate

Greenville Technical College is a proud member institution in the Red Hat
Academy, the only online Linux training program of its kind in the world.
Greenville Tech is the only college in South Carolina offering the Red Hat
Academy curriculum for full college credit. Students in the Red Hat Academy
learn through classroom lectures with a Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
instructor, hours of hands-on labs that provide students real life Linux
scenarios, and challenging written tests and exams.
Greenville Tech offers an 18 credit hour
Linux Administration Certificate designed to help network
administrators enhance their Linux skills.

The Red Hat Academy Program at Greenville Tech includes four
three credit hour college courses (click links below to view course syllabi):

IST190: Linux Essentials
- Students will learn to be effective users of Linux systems acquiring
skills and understanding of command line functions, file systems, users and
groups, bash shell, process management, text editors, network applications,
searching and organizing data, and graphical applications.

IST191: Linux System Administration
- Students will learn to install and configure Linux, manage the Linux
filesystem, understand the Linux boot process, administer Linux users and
groups, and become familiar with various Linux administrative tools.

IST192: Linux Network Applications
- Students will learn how to install and configure Linux network services
including Apache Web Server, Squid Proxy Server, Berkley Domain Name Service
(BIND), Network File Service (NFS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP),
Samba File Service (SMB), and Sendmail E-mail Service.

IST193: Linux Security Administration (and Shell Script Programming)
- Students will learn how to configure and administer various Linux
security features including Pluggable Authentication Modules (PAM), TCP
Wrappers, and kernel level firewalling using iptables; as well as advanced
administration of user authentication, password management, system
monitoring, and data encryption. Students will also learn the fundamentals
of shell script programming.
